Ihre Aufgaben sind von zentraler Bedeutung f\u00fcr das Leben, sodass sie sich in allen Zellen von Pflanzen, Tieren und Menschen finden. Mikrotubuli k\u00f6nnen mehrere Mikrometer lang werden, was ungef\u00e4hr der Dicke eines durchschnittlichen menschlichen Haares entspricht.<\/p>\n<p>Die r\u00f6hrenf\u00f6rmige Struktur der Mikrotubuli besteht aus einer regelm\u00e4ssigen Anordnung zweier Bausteine, den sogenannten Tubulinen (\u03b1-Tubulin und \u03b2-Tubulin). In einer gesunden Zelle werden aus diesen Bausteinen st\u00e4ndig neue Mikrotubuli gebildet und wieder zerst\u00f6rt. Dieser Prozess wird durch zahlreiche Mechanismen gesteuert, unter anderem durch den sogenannte Tubulin-Tyrosin-Zyklus. Die Aminos\u00e4ure Tyrosin wird dabei entweder an das \u03b1-Tubulin angeheftet oder von diesem abgeschnitten.<\/p>\n<p>Die Enzyme, die Tyrosin an \u03b1-Tubulin binden, sind seit Langem bekannt. Ohne diese Enzyme k\u00f6nnen sich die Nervenzellen im Gehirn nicht richtig vernetzen.
