Covid-19: Indoor air handling systems in the healthcare sector
In times of Covid-19, treatment capacities must be provided. Air handling units play an important role in this context. The operation and use of these plants creates uncertainty and raises many questions.
The new VDMA information sheet "Recommendations for healthcare" takes an in-depth look at the suitability and operating conditions of various premises with ventilation and air conditioning systems for the two use cases of regular operation (standard requirement according to DIN 1946-4:2018-09) and occupancy with corona (suspected) cases.
The aim of the information leaflet is to prevent the spread of Covid-19 through ventilation and air-conditioning systems and between room areas when premises in hospitals and other healthcare facilities are converted. The building- and facility-specific measures described are intended for facilities that have ventilation and air-conditioning systems and in whose premises infectious patients and suspected cases are examined and treated on an outpatient, day-care or inpatient basis.
First information brochure provides basic knowledge
Already at the beginning of April, the first information brochure "Basics of operation and use" on the subject of ventilation systems in times of Covid-19 was produced in the Fachverband Allgemeine Lufttechnik.
This publication by the VDMA Air Filter Working Group is aimed at experts in ventilation and air-conditioning technology, facility service providers, and operators of buildings equipped with ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
The facility-specific precautions described are intended for commercial and public buildings.
