VDMA: "Smoke and heat exhaust ventilators" standard sheet revised

The VDMA standard sheet 24177, general air technology, specifies the requirements for mechanical smoke and heat exhaust ventilators for smoke removal from buildings in the event of fire and describes the different construction and operating modes as well as the erection, installation and maintenance of the devices. The requirements for mechanical and electrical components and accessories are also addressed, as the VDMA writes in its press release.

All chapters editorially revised

In cooperation with experts from other organizations, all chapters have been editorially revised and the current regulations have been extensively adapted to current requirements.

Compared to the draft version, the title of the standard sheet and the wording have been adapted to the designations used under building law, according to the VDMA. In the preface, the application of smoke and heat exhaust ventilators would be described more concretely.

Classification as a construction product 

Mechanical smoke and heat exhaust ventilators are construction products - they are subject to:

• Construction Products Regulation based on the basic documents, implemented by the Construction Products Act.
• Building regulations of the federal states, in conjunction with the technical rules of the building supervisory authorities
• Model Administrative Regulation on Technical Building Regulations (MVV TB), drawn up and published by DIBt (Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik)
