Hacker attack on Geneva shipping company
At the end of August, the website of the Lake Geneva shipping company CGN was attacked. During the attack, the perpetrators obtained bank data of some customers.
Only recently, a cyber attack in the municipality of Rolle VD on Lake Geneva caused a stir. According to a media report by "24heures", residents' personal data has surfaced on the darknet following a hacker attack. According to the city administration, however, it was primarily the e-mail servers that were affected. However, a large amount of sensitive data such as AHV numbers, home addresses and dates of birth ended up on the Internet.
Bank data stolen from ship passengers
According to a report by the SDA news agency, the Geneva-based shipping company Compagnie générale de navigation sur le lac Léman (CGN) was also the victim of another hacker attack on its ticketing system at the end of August.
The perpetrators managed to access customers' bank data in the process. However, according to a spokesperson for the shipping company, the whole hacking scenario lasted "only a few days" until the website could be secured again. It is not known whether it was the same perpetrators.
So far, only two customers have reported malicious attacks to the company, according to CGN. During the online transaction, a pop-up window opened asking customers if they wanted to register for future purchases. While the risks were minimal, CGN still urges customers to contact their bank to verify their credit card transactions, the company said.
