Fire department catches lynx

A wild lynx in the city area has kept the Basel blue light organizations on Wednesday on the go. The professional fire department of the Basel-Stadt rescue succeeded in capturing the young animal in the evening in the Delsbergerallee. They then brought the lynx in an animal transport box to the Lange Erlen Zoo.

An initial report that a lynx had been spotted in the Jakobsberg area on the cantonal border was received by the service dog unit of the Basel-Stadt cantonal police at around nine o'clock on Wednesday. Later in the afternoon, two more people called the cantonal police operations center to report sightings of the wildcat in Gundeli: on Tannenfluhweg and in front yards on Delsbergerallee. Employees of the professional fire department were later able to capture the young animal in the entrance area of a property on Delsbergerallee with a cloth and a landing net.
