WHO seeks nanomaterial experts for new protection guidelines
The WHO wants to develop new guidelines for handling nanomaterials in the workplace. Experts from industry and commerce who are interested in participating can now apply.
Working with nanomaterials means new risks for workers worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) has therefore identified contact with nanomaterials as a priority in the development of the Global Action Plan on Workers' Health from 2008 to 2017.
To address the risks, WHO is developing guidelines to protect workers from the potential risks of nanomaterials. These guidelines include risk identification, risk management and recommendations to improve occupational safety and protect workers' health. A special focus is on low- and middle-income countries.
WHO is now seeking experts for an external review of these guidelines. A group of 22 people will review whether the guidelines cover the entire field and whether the recommendations are useful and applicable.
