To protect yourself as much as possible against seasonal flu, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH)to be vaccinated between mid-October and mid-November. The recommendation is aimed at people with an increased risk of complications in the event of influenza and their contacts. People over the age of 65, the chronically ill, pregnant women, premature infants up to the age of two, and residents of nursing homes have a higher risk of complications.

Anyone who regularly has close private or professional contact with the above-mentioned groups should also be vaccinated against seasonal influenza. In this way, you not only protect yourself, but also others: especially infants, who also have an increased risk of complications, but cannot yet be vaccinated, patients and elderly people, for whom the protective effect of the flu vaccination may be reduced.

The annual national flu vaccination day will take place in 2015 on Friday, November 6. On this day, you can get vaccinated against seasonal flu without an appointment in the practice of participating family doctors, for a recommended flat rate of 30 Swiss francs. The addresses of the vaccination practices are available at www.kollegium.ch retrievable.

At the same time, there is a Stop Measles Day. This means that you can check your vaccination status on the basis of your vaccination booklet without making an appointment in advance and, if necessary, make an appointment for vaccination or get vaccinated against measles straight away (participating doctors' practices at www.stopmasern.ch). Especially among adults up to the age of about 50 years, there are still many vaccination gaps. The measles vaccination is still exempt from the health insurance deductible until the end of the year for all persons born in 1964 or younger.

The one-off Stop Measles Day is one of the final activities of the federal government's measles elimination strategy, which will be concluded at the end of 2015. The goal is to make Switzerland measles-free. Transmission of the disease is interrupted when 95 % of the population have been vaccinated twice or have had the disease.
