Drinking coffee has long had the reputation of waking you up, but damaging your health: It destroys bone substance, dehydrates the body and increases cholesterol levels.

A new study by Harvard University now shows that coffee drinkers actually live longer than people who do without the black brew. Three to five cups a day are apparently ideal. People who consume this amount have a lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease, adult-onset diabetes and neurological conditions at an early age.

The data come from three different observational studies involving a total of 200,000 people. However, the researchers emphasize that these are correlations, but causality has not been proven.

However, various studies have shown that drinking coffee reduces inflammation in the body and at the same time makes it less sensitive to insulin fluctuations. A positive effect on dementia has also been shown.
