Good leadership does not grow on a Christmas tree

Standing on the sidelines and always knowing everything better - everyone has probably experienced a boss like this at some point. But is this what good leadership looks like? This is the question the new social media clipwhich the accident insurers and employers' liability insurance associations are presenting today as part of their prevention campaign "kommwithmensch" have published. In keeping with the season, the focus is on the Christmas tree. The boss has precise ideas about the decorated fir tree, orders her colleague around in a bad mood, shifts her responsibility for safe and healthy working onto him and ends up causing chaos in the pre-Christmas decorated canteen herself. That's how it can go when Managers anything but appreciative deal with their employees.

"With a little wink, the video shows how we don't really imagine leadership: Patronizing, know-it-all, unyielding. Who wants a boss like that?" says Gregor Doepke, Head of Communications at the German Social Accident Insurance. "The message of the film is very clear: Good leadership can only come about through good communication, opportunities for co-determination, acceptance of responsibility, recognition and appreciation. And this also helps to strengthen the health of employees."

Health and safety in a company

"The Christmas Tree" is the first of three social media spots planned so far, all of which are being realized by director Isa Prahl. The clips gradually address the campaign's areas of activity. Leadership is one of them. Managers shape the importance of health and safety in a company. If they themselves act in a safe and healthy manner, they also promote this attitude among the entire workforce. How health-oriented leadership can look is decisively shaped by the management of the company.

Background "kommmitmensch"
The "kommwithmensch" is the German prevention campaign run by the German Social Accident Insurance Institutions and their umbrella organization, the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV). The background to this is that the number of accidents at work has not fallen significantly in recent years. To get closer to the Vision Zero goal of a world without accidents at work and work-related illnesses, we therefore need a holistic approach: "kommwithmensch" supports companies and educational institutions in developing a culture of prevention in which safety and health are the basis of all actions.
