New CAS in Digital Risk Management

CONTINUING EDUCATION The CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies) Digital Risk Management deals in particular with recognizing and dealing with risks of the digital transformation as well as the implementation of digital risk management in companies.

Ralph Hutter heads the new CAS Digital Risk Management course with Manuel P. Nappo.

Digital transformation is changing business processes, threatening long-standing business models and shaping the way innovation is addressed in companies. However, digital transformation also leads to new risk factors that go far beyond the typical threats posed by traditional IT systems. The CAS Digital Risk Management bridges the gap between business strategy, technical and operational aspects, and corporate culture. Graduates are able to assess digital threats from a new, holistic, entrepreneurial perspective and increase the company's resilience (digital resilience) in digital business with appropriate measures.

"It's Business, not Bytes!" is the guiding principle of the CAS, emphasizes Ralph Hutter. He heads the course together with Manuel P. Nappo. "Compared to traditional risk management, we see the CAS not as a course in risks but in opportunities. Digitalization requires a healthy dose of new entrepreneurial spirit and an accurate assessment of a company's risk appetite, because behind every risk there is also opportunity," explains Hutter.

Renowned lecturers
The lecturers include well-known exponents from the private sector, federal authorities and start-ups, as well as experts from network policy, communications and research, for example Ferdinand Kobelt, Head of Information Security Defense DDPS Army Staff, Martin Steiger, lawyer for law in the digital space, Ivan Bütler, CEO Compass Security, Andreas von Gunten, Internet entrepreneur and President Digitale Allmend, Barbara Josef, Head of Communications Microsoft or Martin Eckert, lawyer and former judge of the Federal Appeals Commission for Intellectual Property.

Focus on digitization of business models
The CAS Digital Risk Management covers the areas of infrastructure, reputation and business models, each with a special focus on digitalization. Topics include cybersecurity, hacking, mobile workforce, Internet of Things, data privacy, network policy, digital reputation management and risk assurance. An important cornerstone of the course is the implementation of digital risk management in the company. There is currently no comparable course in Switzerland. According to Hutter, the course is meeting with great interest: "We have already received numerous applications.

This CAS is aimed at decision-makers and specialists involved in the management of digital business areas, as well as professionals from product management, sales, communications, e-business and security.

The CAS is a self-contained course. The first course starts in February 2016 and can be credited to the MAS (Master of Advanced Studies) Digital Business at the HWZ.
