F/A-18: Cause of crash unclear

A Swiss Air Force F/A-18 crashed yesterday in France. According to the DDPS, the crash investigation is not yet known.

The crashed aircraft had taken off from Payerne.

In the joint training area EUC 25 of Switzerland and France, a two-seater F/A-18 of the Swiss Army crashed yesterday, Wednesday, southeast of the city of Besançon. The aircraft had taken off from Payerne.

The pilot was able to eject from his fighter jet. According to the DDPS, he is injured and is in hospital care. The cause of the crash is still unknown. Investigations by the French and Swiss authorities are ongoing, writes the Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sports.

Now the Swiss Air Force has 31 F/A-18s left in service, including only a few two-seaters for training purposes. This is what the head of the air force told "10 vor 10" yesterday.
