Fire safety education with refugees

The new professional recommendation "Fire safety education and fire safety awareness for refugees" of the German Fire Brigades Association (DFV) and the Association for the Promotion of German Fire Protection (vfdb) gives design aids for the work of the fire departments on site, as the two organizations write. The aim of the recommendation is to provide background knowledge and recommendations for action in a relatively new topic for fire safety education for fire departments and all those involved in the topic of fire safety education.

The expert recommendation is the product of a workshop of the Forum Brandschutzerziehung und Brandschutzaufklärung, in which the DFV and the vfdb unite more than 200 fire department experts from all over Germany every year. Building on their expertise, the special challenges of intercultural teaching of fire safety knowledge, such as how to behave in an emergency, how to avoid fires, or how fire departments are structured in Germany, would be elaborated. Practical tips on teaching content and a short collection of materials would supplement the information, the report concludes.
