Army reviews processes
In recent days and weeks, there has been an accumulation of incidents and events in the Swiss army, as the DDPS writes. The recently discovered theft of explosives or the "missing" hand grenades are worth mentioning. In consultation with the responsible Federal Council, the army chief has now ordered an army-wide review of processes and their procedures.
The armed forces are aware of the responsibility they have in handling sensitive material and dangerous goods, writes the DDPS. In all identified cases, the responsible commanders have therefore immediately ordered an investigation by the military justice system, according to the statement. The review of the processes and procedures should reveal any commonalities between the incidents and reveal any systematic nature.
For some time now, the army has been stepping up its self-protection in the wake of terrorist attacks in neighboring countries. Various security measures have been taken: Depots, warehouses and transports are more heavily guarded, and the troops' guard arrangements have been reviewed and adjusted where necessary. Now, the various interfaces and compliance with the regulations are also being checked and, if necessary, adjusted, as the DDPS concludes.
