Attention fireworks!

280 accidents with fireworks happen every year. About half of them around the days of August 1.

Even the ignition temperature of a sparkler reaches over 400 degrees Celsius. Careless and negligent behavior can lead to serious accidents. Therefore, special precautions apply when "playing with fire". The following are a few tips from the Fire Prevention Advisory Service (BfB) and the Advice center for accident prevention (BfU):

  • Protect homes from uncontrolled fireworks. Close doors, windows and skylights.
  • When buying fireworks, find out about their use and read the instructions for use.
  • Always store fireworks in a cool and dry place.
  • Place fireworks on a stable surface, with the prescribed safety distances from people, animals and buildings.
  • Fire rockets only from well-secured bottles or pipes.
  • Never light fireworks in crowds.
  • Keep children away from fireworks. Only allow young people to set off fireworks under supervision.
  • Smoking is absolutely prohibited in the vicinity of fireworks.
  • Do not approach unexploded ordnance for ten minutes and never relight it.
  • Douse used fireworks with water before disposing of them.
  • Have extinguishing agents (e.g. fire extinguisher, fire blanket or a bucket of water) ready.
