Oil barrier for the fire department
The municipality of Grenzach-Wyhlen and the Roche company have signed a user agreement for the use and maintenance of a Roche oil boom.
In order to be able to work during the rehabilitation of perimeter 1/3-NW of the Old deposit Kessler pit ensure the protection of the Rhine, the municipality has Grenzach-Wyhlen and Roche Pharma AG (Roche) signed a usage agreement for the use and maintenance of a Roche oil boom. The oil boom is used in case of an accident or leakage upstream at the jetty of the Kesslergrube. The oil boom prevents further spreading of the pollution on the water surface.
The official handover of the equipment to the volunteer fire department recently took place on the premises of the Grenzach-Wyhlen water sports club in the presence of municipal representatives, the volunteer fire department and Roche.
For Richard Hürzeler, overall project manager of the remediation of perimeter 1/3-NW of the Kesslergrube contaminated site and Roche's global responsible for contaminated sites, good cooperation with the community is particularly important.
Following the handover, the commander of the Grenzach-Wyhlen volunteer fire department, Claus Werner, explained the technical details of the oil boom. With a total length of 100 meters, a considerable area can be secured with the barrier. The fire department commander was pleased about the procurement by Roche: "This means that we now have an important instrument to contain and combat any pollution caused by leaks on the water surface in the Rhine."
