Occupational safety also applies to the unemployed
The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO, the Association of Swiss Labor Market Authorities VSAA and the national umbrella organization of social and professional work integration Switzerland AIS have jointly signed the Suva Safety Charter. The intention is to reduce the number of accidents among those involved in labor market measures.
Since Foundation of Suva the number of occupational accidents has fallen continuously. But unfortunately, around 250,000 people still have accidents at work every year. Also affected are those involved in Labor market measures . These measures aim to promote the rapid and long-term reintegration of unemployed persons into the labor market. Whether in temporary employment, in a professional internship or during a motivation semester - occupational safety and health protection must always be the first priority.
In case of danger STOP
SECO, VSAA and AIS confirm this intention with your signature on the Security Charter of Suva and support the message to say STOP in case of danger and to continue working only when safety has been restored. The focus is particularly on those involved in labor market measures. "We are aware that accidents cannot be avoided with a signature alone. It is our task to motivate the cantons and organizers of labor market measures to anchor the idea of the charter in their daily work and also to sign up to the safety charter," says Oliver Schärli, Head of the Labor Market/Unemployment Insurance Division in the Directorate of Labor at SECO.
This is also confirmed by Louis Schelbert, President AIS, and he is convinced that with the implementation of the Safety Charter Accidents and human suffering can be prevented. Bruno Sauter, President of the VSAA, emphasizes the necessary support from the cantons: "The cantons are responsible for awarding contracts and checking the quality of the implementation of labor market measures. This automatically obliges them to commit themselves to accident prevention".
Rules that save lives
Membership in the Safety Charter is a public commitment by all parties that Suva's vital rules or own safety rules will be consistently followed and enforced. "That the vital rules can save lives is shown by our analyses. In over 60 percent of fatal Occupational accidents one of these rules is violated. Together, we can reduce the number of accidents even further if everyone involved in labor market measures consistently adheres to the vital rules," says Felix Weber, Chairman of Suva's Executive Board.
