The Digital transformation is taking hold of more and more areas of life. New technologies are gaining enormous relevance not only in industrial or economic contexts, but also increasingly in social, ecological or political contexts. To this end, more and more data must be mastered, analyzed, and securely and reliably assigned to concrete actions or a benefit. This creates added value and new jobs - because data is the gold of the modern age, as we so often hear. According to the Forbes Insights/SAP Investor 2019 Report, 72 percent of business leaders believe that the next three years will be more critical for their industry than the last 50 years.

One innovation that is gaining ground on the shop floor is cobots. These collaborative robots are taking over more and more industrial processes that are monotonous or even hazardous to human health. According to the "Centric Digital/SAP Investor 2019 Report," as early as 2020, 85 percent of a customer's brand experience will be shaped by digital interactions. Robots will therefore also find their way into daily life not only as hard-working helpers, but also as "psychosocial applications" or "social robots" according to futurologists.

PEPPER comes exclusively to Zurich

PEPPER is one of these social robots that shows personal and emotional traits. He is the first of his kind and converses with people, recognizes faces, reacts to emotions or moves autonomously from place to place. With its characteristics, PEPPER has now won many hearts. Because even human-like traits such as charm or humor are not foreign to him: he is funny, loves small talk, is empathetic, speaks over 20 languages and is a versatile helper. His special skills consist in recognizing basic human emotions and adapting his behavior to the mood of his conversation partner. automation & electronics at the Zurich Exhibition Center offers the opportunity to meet PEPPER in person. Knowledge Transfer on Digital (R)evolution at the "SciencePlaza

In the special "SciencePlaza" zone in Hall 6, numerous representatives of industry meet science. The trade fair's university partners will have a special appearance. Renowned educational institutions such as the FHNW, HSLU or the HSR Rapperswil form the direct transfer of knowledge from students with industry. With the development of future-oriented applications in the digital transformation also create new training and jobs. The University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), for example, is presenting the latest research and real-world solutions for industry in this regard. The FHNW presents at the fair, among other things, its own Cobot project. You can learn more about this in the Lifeblog.

Exciting and short technical presentations in the ScienceCenter & SolutionCenter

"How is Artificial Intelligence (AI) driving industry and new services?" This is the question posed by Dr. Johannes Maurer, Sales Manager IBM Deutschland GmbH, during his technical presentation on the first day of the trade fair. Another presentation will deal with the topic of "Integrated Machine Vision". Yannick Gubler, software developer at B&R Industrie-Automation AG, provides the definition in his presentation: "With the world's first vision solution that is seamlessly integrated into automation, B&R is taking machine vision integration to a new level. Cameras, intelligent image processing algorithms and an innovative lighting system are an integral part of the B&R control system.

The presentation "5G in the industrial IoT environment - can expectations be met?" takes a critical look at the development of the new mobile communications standard. Everyone is talking about the new mobile communications standard 5G, and this technology is also supposed to be suitable for the industrial IoT environment and to change many things in the future. But is this really true for machine and plant manufacturers? What exactly can we expect, and where are the limits and limitations? Risks associated with the new technology? The presentation by Daniel Fritz, Insys Microelectronics GmbH, will highlight and delve into such questions and also show how a realistic Solutions roadmap could look like.
