If you grill properly, you can only win!
When the barbecue season kicks off, the consumption of grilled meat increases. This also increases the number of people who fall ill with foodborne infections. The reason for this is a lack of hygiene when preparing the grilled food. As part of the "Sicher geniessen" information campaign, the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) and its partners are once again reminding people of the four basic rules of kitchen hygiene - but not only. Anyone who knows the rules has a chance to win one of two weekend excursions including a barbecue meal.
Every year when the Barbecue season the numbers of foodborne infectious diseases are also on the rise, with campylobacteriosis leading the way. In 2018, up to 250 people per week fell ill with this disease in Switzerland over the summer. Diarrhea disease. Most cases of the disease occur in young men between 18 and 30 years of age. Campylobacteriosis, but also other foodborne infections, are mainly caused by poor kitchen hygiene when preparing meals.
Four simple hygiene rules can prevent not only these diseases, but also the transmission of antibiotic-resistant germs:
- Wash correctly
- Heat correctly
- Correct cooling
- Separate correctly
Together with its partners, the BLV is conducting this year on the website www.sichergeniessen.ch is running two competitions. The first runs until the end of June, the second from mid-June until the end of August 2019. The prize in each case is a weekend trip for several people.
