Won with "Lokkit
With their work "Lokkit - Application of Blockchain and IoT", the young researchers Dominik Hirzel from Rotkreuz and Andreas Schmid from Wohlen at HSLU win the regional "Siemens Excellence Award" endowed with 4000 Swiss francs.
As part of the bachelor thesis "Lokkit", a functional locker system was designed that demonstrates the use of blockchain technology in the Internet of Things (IoT) environment. The students implemented the entire product development cycle from the idea, the use case, the technology selection, the architecture, the software development to the hardware construction.
The work impressively shows how digital contracts could be linked to physical reactions, the jury said. The advantages of using blockchain are: Decentralized operation, easy integration of new partners, automatic settlement in a crypto-currency, and secure communication and execution. The work convinced the expert jury by showing the possibilities that the combination of blockchain and IoT offers for the sharing economy, it said.
The two award winners, like those from other universities of applied sciences, are nominated for the national "Siemens Excellence Award". This will be awarded in 2018 and is endowed with 10,000 Swiss francs. PD Siemens
