Protect safety systems
Since last year, all newly planned buildings in Germany must have surge protection installed. This also benefits safety technology.
Overvoltage, but also lightning strikes, can cause considerable damage to safety systems. If this is due to inadequate planning and installation, it can be expensive for installers and planners, as the BHE Bundesverband Sicherheitstechnik emphasizes. This also applies to the installer if he has the wiring network installed by an external electrical company.
Detailed information about the changes in the standards DIN VDE 0100-443 and -534 (erection of low-voltage installations) and the corresponding obligations can be found in the BHE paper "Drastic changes in lightning and surge protection" (pdf-download at www.bhe.de).
Practical implementation tips
Practical implementation tips on how to avoid installation and planning errors are provided to installers and planners in the BHE technical seminar "Lightning and surge protection on 20/21.9.2017 in Fulda. According to the security association, the focus will be on intrusion and fire alarm systems as well as video surveillance systems. Among other things, the planner- and installer-specific requirements for lightning and surge protection, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and line networks will be presented.
In an optional workshop, grounding and shielding measures as well as internal surge protection for safety technology are planned together, according to the information.
