Job offer grows - also in IT
The number of job vacancies has increased, especially in western Switzerland. Demand is also high for IT specialists, among others.
The number of job vacancies in French-speaking Switzerland increased by a striking +7.6% last month. In German-speaking Switzerland, the increase was +1.4%, and across Switzerland as a whole +2.2%. Highly qualified specialists in logistics, engineering, accounting and controlling, but also in IT are currently in particularly high demand. This is evident from the MP-Job Index emerged.
The three growth drivers are:
- industry - particularly in the Central Plateau and Eastern Switzerland
- the industrial transformation process
- the upcoming 2015 annual financial statements, which are subject to more stringent requirements in some industries.
According to Nicolai Mikkelsen, Director at Michael Page, Swiss industrial companies have reorganized their production due to the Swiss franc shock. The resulting need for specialists explains a good part of the increase in advertised positions. And in view of the upcoming annual financial statements and the increased requirements in some cases, the increased demand for key functions in accounting and in selected areas of consulting and legal advice is reflected.
The significant increase in job vacancies in French-speaking Switzerland was partly due to the "backlog" after the summer break.
Between August and September 2015, the following sectors show the highest increases in advertised jobs: Consulting and Legal (+21%), Auditing (+10%), Transportation and Logistics (+7%), IT sector (+3%).
In a Switzerland-wide comparison, Western Switzerland is the growth driver, followed by the Central Plateau:
1. western Switzerland (FR, GE, JU, NE, VD, VS) +7.6%
2. midland (BE, FR, JU, NE, SO) +4.7%
3. eastern Switzerland (AI, AR, GL, GR, SG, SH, TG) +2.3%
4. northwestern Switzerland (AG, BL, BS) +1.2%
5. canton Zurich (ZH) +0.7%
6. central Switzerland (LU, NW, OW, SZ, UR, ZG) -1.1%
