Like the "Mirror"The EU is said to be in negotiations with Pfizer and Biontech to double the number of doses available. A new contract is being considered to purchase 100 million injection doses and an option for another 200 million. This would make a total of around 600 million doses available for the EU to vaccinate two-thirds of the population of the 27 EU countries via a two-dose schedule. Just a few days earlier, the EU had increased its original order from 200 million to 300 million doses. However, it still seems unclear how many doses can be replenished on an ongoing basis. It is conceivable that further units of the vaccine will not be available until the end of the year.

Half a million vaccine doses in Switzerland by the end of January

In total, the federal government has ordered about three million vaccine doses from Pfizer and Biontech. According to the data evaluated by the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products, vaccine protection is according to Swissmedic seven days after the second vaccination at over 90 percent. Today, Switzerland has received 126,000 new vaccine doses, as "SRF News"writes. According to Nora Kronig, vice director of the FOPH, they are now looking positively in the direction of approval of Moderna. With the already approved vaccine from Pfizer and Biontech, more doses would be available: It is expected that about half a million doses will be available in January, and even a little more than a million in February, Kronig said.
