Perimeter protection is also IT security

Comprehensive perimeter security must also adequately protect network components installed outdoors.

In a holistic security concept, perimeter protection is the first line of defense. Perimeter security detects potential criminals as they attempt to enter the premises. This early detection offers a significant time advantage for intervention measures.

Do not forget IT components

Nowadays, components such as switches, routers and other network components are also installed outdoors in modern industrial operations or public infrastructure facilities. This is why IT security also plays an important role in outdoor surveillance, writes the BHE Bundesverband Sicherheitstechnik. According to the association, in addition to secure processes and structures, the "Defence-in-Depth" approach should always be satisfied and the individual systems should be hardened. The defense-in-depth approach involves the coordinated use of several security measures to protect data.

BHE Symposium

Since its foundation, the BHE expert committee Perimeter has been dealing with all topics related to perimeter security. This year, IT security in particular will be in the foreground and the question of linking perimeter security and cyber security will be raised at a specialist symposium. What measures should be taken in the short, medium and long term based on the current threat situation? How can the "residual risk" be assessed and evaluated?

The "Technical and User Symposium Perimeter Protection - Insider Knowledge"The BHE event on August 28, 2018, in Bremerhaven will therefore address the question of how to link perimeter security and cyber security. The BHE event enables an exchange of long-term experiences and at the same time offers an interesting outlook into the future, write the organizers. Among other things, the new standard for perimeter security will be presented at the event.

The BHE symposium is aimed at the following target groups: those responsible for security in companies and technical specialists, representatives of criminal investigation departments, planners and engineering offices, insurers, decision-makers in building authorities.
