Thunderstorm: six tips
Heavy rain, hail and severe squalls: In the midst of the hot summer, storms also threaten. The German Fire Brigades Association gives six tips for correct behavior.
And here's how to behave in the event of an oncoming storm:
- Watch out for approaching thunderstorms during outdoor activities. Warning apps can also provide information here (see below).
- A permanent building is the safest place to be during a storm. Alternatively, an enclosed motor vehicle also provides protection.
- If you are caught in a severe thunderstorm outdoors, crouch in a depression. Avoid solitary trees of any kind, poles, metal fences and other metal structures.
- Wait out severe weather with storms and hail in road traffic first in a parking lot or on the side of the road in a tree-free section.
- Do not enter supposedly dried-up brooks and rivers - in heavy rain there is danger to life!
- Report accidents and fires immediately by calling the emergency number 112.
