Intensive care physicians conduct research on nasal spray vaccines

In Germany, intensive care specialists are researching active substances that can be absorbed through the nose. With a nasal spray vaccine, the immune system could also be mobilized where the virus penetrates.

Nasal spray vaccine

According to a report in Der Spiegel, intensive care physicians in Germany are already researching nasal spray vaccines against the spread of the coronavirus. As the president of the German Society for Interistic Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DGIIN) told the Düsseldorf-based "Rheinische Post" on Tuesday, it is important to promote development to the maximum.

The advantage would be that even people with reservations could be given the vaccine with a relatively new technology. A nasal spray vaccine would mobilize the immune system at precisely the point where the body could fight off pathogens at an earlier stage than with a conventional vaccination.

According to the Science" magazine seven nasal spray vaccines against coronavirus are currently being tested. These were still in early study phases until the end of July. Factors such as tolerability and efficacy by dosage are still unclear.
