Penalty-free distribution of laser pointers in St.Gallen

With the exception of laser class 1, laser pointers are now prohibited. In the canton of St.Gallen, laser pointers or presenters with lasers can be handed in to the cantonal police without penalty.

At the beginning of June 2019, the Federal Law on Protection against Hazards from Non-Ionizing Radiation and Sound (NISSG) came into force. With the new regulations, the use of laser pointers that cannot be assigned to laser class 1 is also prohibited. According to the information, a transition period for the possession of class 1M, 2M, 3R, 3B or 4 lasers and unmarked laser pointers will apply until June 1, 2020.

Class 2 laser pointers must be disposed of by June 1, 2021 at the latest. In the canton of St.Gallen, the devices can be handed in at all police stations without penalty. They will be disposed of professionally by the authorities, as they write.
