Swissbau: also a meeting place for the security industry
Digitalization is changing the economy; interdisciplinary networking, collaboration and convergence of the various industries are gaining in importance. Therefore, the different areas of the construction and real estate industry are also growing together. Swissbau will bring together the various protagonists, including the security industry, at the leading trade fair in January 2020.
Over five days from January 14 to 18, around 880 exhibitors as well as more than 30 industry associations and institutions will be presenting themselves on 110,000 m2 of exhibition space in Basel. The event is frequented by around 80% trade visitors.
The Swissbau consists of three vessels:
- Fair (exhibitors and their products and services)
- Swissbau Focus (event and networking platform)
- Swissbau Innovation Lab (special show for digital transformation)
Extension with building security
These three formats are based on the life cycle of a property and are continuously developed in collaboration with various partners. In this way, the leading trade fair offers exhibitors and visitors a live experience platform with high relevance, topicality and interdisciplinarity, emphasize the organizers. "The expansion of Swissbau with the areas of energy in buildings, building automation and building security meets the growing need for interdisciplinary networking. Collaboration is essential in times of change," explains Rudolf Pfander, Exhibition Director Swissbau, at the media orientation in Basel. The integrative trade fair concept would open up new target groups for everyone.
Need for information and personal exchange
Today, digital channels are used to interact and communicate quickly and cost-effectively. Thus, trade fair organizers are challenged to demonstrate the added value of a trade fair; digitalization and globalization call for new ideas, according to the Swissbau trade fair director. But personal contact is still irreplaceable, even in times of digitalization. Gaining customer trust and cultivating relationships is only possible through personal exchange, he said. For Pfander, the importance of Swissbau as a platform for interdisciplinary dialog and networking is greater than ever: "At a trade fair, I find the entire industry united in one place; within a very short time, I reach the decision-makers who are important to me."
80 events, but also safety topics
Live experience platform instead of conventional product presentation: With groundbreaking events, those responsible want to attract the decision-makers of the construction industry to Basel. Together with around 30 industry associations, institutions and universities, Swissbau Focus offers a relevant event and networking platform. The current challenges facing the industry along the life cycle would be discussed at around 80 events. The Swissbau Innovation Lab, newly launched in 2018, puts digital construction at the center of attention: In collaboration with the industry, the special show for digital transformation addresses the topics of BIM (Building Information Modeling), digital solutions and building of the future and presents innovative approaches.
With the relocation of the security trade fair from Zurich to Basel (see article here), the Safety Congress will now also be held as part of Swissbau. From 14 to 16 January 2020, various half-day modules will be offered (see below).
All-round package live experience platform
As one of the Swissbau Specials, the trade fair offers guided tours in cooperation with the premium network Swiss-Architects for a professional audience from the architecture and construction industry. These Guided Tours offer an overview of new technologies, materials and products and are curated by independent experts from the fields of architecture, interior design and building materials. Participants can expect a differentiated perspective on the latest from the Swiss construction industry. In total, eight architects would offer their individual two-hour tours with different focuses. As another special, the Master Builders Association will be present at Swissbau 2020 with the "Tour d'horizon" project. With this project, the SBC wants to launch a dialogue with the public. At the center of the SBC project is a 13-meter-high tower on the exhibition square.
Motto: "Trial and Error
Incidentally, the motto of Swissbau 2020 is "Trial and error - courage for something new? Established processes are increasingly being called into question. The future therefore belongs to interdisciplinary teams that leave the beaten track and thus find the best solutions. In keeping with the motto, a "Fuckup Night" will be held for the first time as part of Swissbau Focus on Friday, January 17 at 5:00 pm: Here, entrepreneurs will tell of the low blows in their careers and what they have learned from them. "Fuckup nights" publicly celebrate mistakes and defeats, so-called "fuckups." Those who have fallen deeply and still managed to get back up again are met with approval.
