Novel trick scam
In the city of Zurich, there are new types of trick scams.
Tuesday, January 14: At around 11:00 a.m., an alleged police officer contacted a 61-year-old woman by telephone and explained that her daughter had just been involved in a traffic accident. He went on to say that there was a problem with the insurance company and that a deposit now had to be made immediately. He said that an amount of 150,000 francs was due so that everything could be settled immediately. In the further course of the conversation, the 61-year-old was given a crying person on the phone, who was supposedly her daughter. However, a conversation between the two did not take place. The person called became suspicious, ended the call and, fortunately, immediately contacted the emergency number 117 of the Zurich city police. In the following two hours, at least four further similar incidents occurred in the city.
Police warning
In this context, the Zurich City Police would like to point out that the police never make demands for money by telephone that cannot be settled at a police station against a receipt. It therefore urges the public never to hand over cash or other valuables to unknown persons.
