Drastic measures were decided by the Federal Council today, Friday:

  • From now until the end of April Events with more than 100 persons is prohibited. This measure also applies to leisure facilities such as museums, sports centers, swimming pools or ski resorts. The cantons may grant exceptions if there is an overriding public interest, such as for general meetings. For events with fewer than 100 people, the following prevention applies: measures to exclude people who are ill or feel ill; measures to protect people who are particularly at risk; measures to inform people present about general protective measures such as hand hygiene, keeping their distance, or cough and cold hygiene;
  • Maximum 50 people including "hosts" are at the same time in Restaurants, bars and discos allowed.
  • Also the School operation will be restricted: No classes will be held on site until April 4. It is up to the cantons to provide childcare services for elementary school students. The Federal Council explicitly points out that grandparents should not take over the childcare situation.
  • The Entry from Italy into Switzerland will be further restricted. With immediate effect, Schengen border controls will be reintroduced at all internal borders, depending on the situation. Entry from Italy is now only permitted to Swiss citizens, persons with a residence permit in Switzerland and persons who have to travel to Switzerland for professional reasons. Transit and movement of goods will also continue to be allowed. (see Regulation)
  • Economic Aid: The federal government is also making up to CHF 10 billion available to companies - in the form of emergency aid. The grace period for the Short-time work will be reduced to one day with immediate effect until September 30, 2020. Companies will thus only have to bear the loss of one day's work themselves. For particularly affected companies, the Federal Council is considering financial support (e.g. for liquidity bridging or financial aid) in the sense of a Hardship scheme up to 1 billion Swiss francs (the relevant modalities will be examined and the necessary funds requested by April 1).
  • It is also recommended to use the public transport to avoid. In this context, SBB points out that regular public transport (licensed long-distance and regional services) will continue to operate according to the timetable. Freight traffic will be maintained to the same extent as before as far as possible. However, purely tourist, historical and extra trips will be cancelled. According to the information, all group tours are also canceled. The SBB has strengthened the hygienic measures: Where possible, all doors on trains and buses at the stations or stops will be opened so that the door openers do not have to be pressed by hand.
