Beware of forged e-mails in the name of the FOPH
For a few days now, cybercriminals have been trying to exploit the Corona uncertainty. Emails with fake senders from the FOPH, but also from the WHO, are being circulated.
Using fake emails and posts about the coronavirus, cybercriminals are trying to infect devices and spread the malware called AgentTesla. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) is stated as the sender of the emails sent. The Reporting and Analysis Centre for Information Assurance (Melani) warns and advises to ignore these e-mails and not to click on links under any circumstances, but to delete them immediately.
Those who nevertheless opened attachments or clicked on links would have malware placed on them, Melani said. This would allow attackers full remote access to the computer and passwords could be read.
Immediately turn off computer
If such an e-mail is opened by mistake, the computer should be switched off immediately, says Melani. In such a case, the information center recommends restarting the computer or contacting a computer store. Afterwards, it is important to change the passwords immediately, says Melani.
False appeals for donations
Also the Eset-Researchers are currently observing a massive increase in criminal activities in the Corona environment. Spam mails with supposed information about the corona virus from renowned institutions such as the World Health Organization (WHO) are very widespread and contain a malicious PDF file as an attachment. Furthermore, the fraudsters would circulate supposed appeals for donations or offers for respiratory masks in order to lure users to fake stores or to entice them to make payments.
