Exhaust gas thriller: Astra issues registration ban
The Federal Roads Office today issued a directive preventing vehicles affected by emissions manipulation from reaching Swiss roads. The temporary registration ban only affects vehicles that are being registered in Switzerland for the first time. It applies from Monday, 5.10.2015.
The directive is addressed to the road traffic offices of the cantons and was also sent to the various importers, as the Federal Roads Office (Astra) writes. Affected are models from the Volkswagen Group of the brands Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen of the construction years 2009 to 2014 (versions EURO5), which are equipped with diesel engines in the versions 1.2TDI, 1.6TDI and 2.0TDI. A decision on lifting the registration ban will be made when new evidence becomes available, Astra said.
The Road Traffic Act (SVG) states that the vehicle license may only be issued if the vehicle complies with the regulations, is roadworthy and has the prescribed liability insurance (Article 11 paragraph 1, SVG).
Furthermore, Astra relies on Article 45 paragraph 1 of the Ordinance on the Type Approval of Road Vehicles (TGV), section 1.2.1.2 of the Ordinance on Technical Requirements for Transport Motor Vehicles and their Trailers (TAFV1) and Article 150 paragraph 6 of the Traffic Licensing Ordinance (VZV).
