Defense against mini-drones: armasuisse procures drone defense systems from Swiss supplier Securiton

The Swiss Federal Office for Defense armasuisse has awarded the contract for systems to defend against mini-drones. Following a four-week evaluation test (field test) to detect and defend against mini-drones for the protection of military infrastructure at Meiringen airfield, armasuisse has commissioned the Swiss supplier Securiton to supply several defense systems. The systems are designed to be partially mobile and can therefore also be used for subsidiary missions by the Swiss Armed Forces for the benefit of civilian authorities.

The army already has experience in the use of mini-drones. These are mainly used for reconnaissance and surveillance tasks in order to gather information for a better assessment of the situation. However, there is currently a capability gap in the defense against enemy mini-drones.

Immediate measures to ward off micro and mini-drones

During a field test in summer 2025, the operation of a drone defense system was tested by the troops. Based on these findings and in response to the increasing number of drone sightings, the Armed Forces commissioned the Federal Armaments Office armasuisse to urgently procure drone defense systems against micro and mini-drones as an immediate measure. The army is thus strengthening the protection of its troops and its own infrastructure in the normal situation.

armasuisse has now awarded the contract for the procurement of several drone defense systems to the Swiss supplier Securiton. The procurement, worth CHF 3.5 million, is covered by the commitment credit for equipment and renewal requirements of the Swiss Armed Forces (AEB). As the drone defense systems are partially mobile, they can also be used for other purposes and tasks of the Armed Forces regardless of location if required - for example as part of subsidiary missions for civilian authorities or in the peace support service.
