Alarm system ensured again
According to the DDPS, the extraordinary siren test on May 23 was successful. The central system for remote control of the sirens worked perfectly, and the sirens were triggered correctly throughout Switzerland.

During the nationwide siren test of February 7, 2018 a technical malfunction occurred in the central system for remote control of the sirens. Therefore, the Federal Office for Civil Protection (FOCP) has decided that the siren test must be repeated throughout Switzerland on May 23.
In Switzerland, there are about 5,000 stationary sirens for the general alarm to protect the population; of these, about 600 are used simultaneously as combination sirens for the water alarm. During today's extraordinary siren test, both alarm systems were tested: As a result, about 99 percent of the sirens worked perfectly, as reported by the VBS writes in its press release. This is within the normal error rate. The defective equipment will be repaired or replaced immediately, the federal office said.
