Security industry also feeling the effects of the Corona crisis
German security providers are feeling the economic effects of the Corona pandemic, in some cases on a massive scale. This is the result of a recent member survey conducted by the BHE Bundesverband Sicherheitstechnik.
According to the survey conducted by the BHE Bundesverband Sicherheitstechnik (Federal Association for Security Technology), almost two-thirds of the participating companies report a drop in sales. On average, these losses amount to around 24 percent. The greatest impact was reported in new business. Almost half of the companies reported a drop in sales of almost 20 percent on average, as the BHE writes.
Project deferral and delivery bottlenecks
In the maintenance business, slightly less than half of the companies had to report a decline in sales. On average, this decline would be less than 10 percent.
According to the survey, the order volume has also been reduced for around half of the specialist security installers. The losses here averaged around 30 percent. Almost as many companies also reported a drop in the number of quotations, averaging almost 40 percent.
"As a result of the Corona crisis, installers are struggling with various challenges in their daily business. The main problems cited were arranging customer deadlines, putting projects on hold and delivery bottlenecks with upstream suppliers," says Urban Brauer, managing director of the BHE.
30 percent had to register for short-time work
Due to the decline in sales and orders, 30 percent of the companies surveyed had to announce short-time work, according to the data. The "assembly/maintenance" department was most affected by this. On the positive side, almost all companies (93%) have not had to cut staff.
"The Corona crisis is an enormous challenge for the security industry. Numerous specialist companies are having to deal with a drop in sales and orders and react to the changed situation. Although the security industry as a whole has come through the crisis comparatively well so far, the after-effects are likely to be felt in individual companies for a long time to come," says Norbert Schaaf, Chairman of the Board of the BHE.
