Excellent security apps
The expert jury of "Best of Swiss Apps 2018" recently put two apps from the security sector on the shield: An alert app and a bus app.
Launched in October 2018 by the Federal Office for Civil Protection (Babs) in conjunction with the cantons, the Alertswiss-App is one of the most professionally outstanding apps in Switzerland. At the "Best of Swiss Apps 2018", the alerting app wins silver in the "Innovation" category. The Alertswiss app was recognized for its excellent implementations and exemplary use of new technologies to enable novel services, the Babs writes in its media release.
The rapid and targeted alerting as well as the appropriate information of the population in case of disasters and emergencies is an essential task of civil protection. The further developed Alertswiss app enables the responsible authorities to reach the population directly in the event of a disaster. Detailed and visual information on the event, location, impact and behavioral instructions can be communicated to the affected population in a user-friendly way. Since the launch of the new Alertswiss services on October 18, 2018, the enhanced app has already been reinstalled a total of around 168,000 times, the Babs announced on November 9.
Basel bus app received bronze
Also the Bussen app of the Basel-Stadt Cantonal Police made it into the crowns at the "Best of Swiss Apps": It won the bronze medal in the "Enterprise" category. What's more, the app was also nominated for the "Functionality" category - in which the jury scrutinized the apps' functionality.
The employees of the Basel-Stadt Cantonal Police issue the fines with the help of the fines app installed on their cell phones. The app works in conjunction with a Online platform for the customers and with a fine management program in the police back office.
The development of the fines app is part of the multi-year "Kapo2016" project, which significantly reduces paperwork for the Basel-Stadt Cantonal Police, according to the Basel-Stadt Department of Justice and Security. The cantonal police can invest these efficiency gains in the safety of the population by once again increasing their presence on the streets.
