Axis Communications launches two new explosion-protected security solutions for use in hazardous areas. AXIS Q1961-XTE Explosion-Protected Thermal Camera is the world's first thermographic explosion-protected network camera for Zone 2 hazardous areas, while AXIS XC1311 Explosion-Protected Horn Speaker is the first network horn speaker specifically designed for Zone 1 hazardous areas. Both solutions have been developed and certified according to international explosion protection standards.

While a hazardous explosive atmosphere only occasionally forms in a Zone 1 hazardous area during normal operation, this usually does not occur in Zone 2 during normal operation, or only for short periods. The two new network safety solutions from Axis have been developed for applications in precisely these zones.

AXIS Q1961-XTE: Safe temperature measurement in Zone 2

With AXIS Q1961-XTE, Axis has developed the world's first thermographic camera specifically certified for Zone 2 hazardous areas. The camera functions as a thermal imaging camera which, in addition to visualizing the infrared thermal image, can also precisely monitor the temperature development from greater distances thanks to particularly effective temperature measurement (-40 °C to 350 °C or -40 °F to 660 °F).

AXIS Q1961-XTE supports up to ten configurable polygonal detection areas with automatically triggered alarms. Spot temperature measurement is performed anywhere in the camera's field of view to detect temperatures in specific areas. For example, an alarm is triggered if the temperature in the camera's measuring range exceeds or falls below a predefined threshold value. Automated notifications are also possible if the temperature rises or falls too quickly.

Not only can hazardous situations in critical infrastructure and industrial environments be reliably and preventively identified remotely, but overheating of machines and equipment can also be detected in good time. Unplanned downtime can be minimized in this way, preventive maintenance can be planned and operational efficiency can be increased, for example in processes such as waste management and recycling.

The rugged AXIS Q1961-XTE is IP66/IP67 certified and equipped with electrical protections against arcing, sparks and overheating, as well as secure cable connectors and plastic components with enhanced fire-retardant properties. It also features Axis Edge Vault, a hardware-based cybersecurity platform for protecting sensitive data ex-factory based on cryptographic keys.
