BIM in a safety-relevant context
The construction industry in Switzerland is also relying on Building Information Modeling. Does this also apply to the security industry?
Construction giants such as Implenia are already using BIM to handle building construction and infrastructure projects with an order volume of over CHF 1,000 million. For example, BIM is currently being used in the construction of the 80-meter-high St. Andrew's Tower in Zurich Oerlikon.
Almost every building requires a security system - fire protection, access management, video surveillance, and so on. So the security industry is not immune to the digital construction site.
With BIM, a realistic virtual duplicate of the future building is created. According to experts, this has the advantage that the building's performance can be tested much more practically than before. If, for example, elements of the safety technology are missing, this will be noticed much earlier than today, as BIM experts promise.
BIM at the Safety Congress
And because BIM is becoming increasingly important for the safety industry, digital construction is also on the Program of this year's safety congress in Zurich Oerlikon: "BIM - new impulses for safety" is the name of the half-day module on Thursday, November 16. Questions such as "From the client to the planner to the operator - what needs to be considered when ordering BIM?" or "Norms and standards for digital collaboration - where do we stand?
An architect will speak about "BIM - application in a safety-relevant context". Among other things, she will explain why the tool helps with risk assessment.
A fire protection specialist will also have his say. His topic: "BIM - an ingenious tool, but we still have to do the planning ourselves".
Second BIM Congress
One of the BIM drivers in this country is the interest group "Bauen digital Schweiz". It sees itself as an open platform and focuses on the topic of digitization in construction, across the entire value chain and lifecycle. This fall, the network is holding the Swiss BIM Congress for the second time. It will take place on October 26 and 27 at the Maag Halle in Zurich (see detailed program).
