The federal government and retailers raise awareness of the need to keep emergency stocks
A new campaign informs the public about keeping an emergency stockpile. An emergency stock calculator now helps private households to put together an emergency reserve for unexpected situations.

The Covid-19 pandemic and the extreme weather events in various parts of Switzerland in 2024 show that unexpected situations can arise at any time. The emergency stockpile is a simple and very effective measure in the event of a crisis. It can ensure independence of supply for a few days. It is a contribution that each and every individual can make to cope with challenging times.
The campaign is aimed at everyone living in Switzerland. It includes not only information, but also practical tools, tips and instructions. For example, in addition to the calculator, there is personalized advice for young parents and pet owners.
Emergency supply calculator
With the new emergency stock calculator, you can create an individual shopping list for products that should be stockpiled in just a few steps. The emergency stock calculator takes into account the size of the household, eating habits and intolerances. Various checklists and brochures are also available on the website, providing detailed instructions and recommendations for emergency supplies.
In addition, the Federal Office for National Economic Supply (FONES) is now offering an interactive educational video on emergency stocks. This uses a practical example to explain the relevance of emergency stocks to a young audience in particular.
International Day for Disaster Reduction
The information campaign is being launched in the run-up to the "International Day for Disaster Reduction" on October 13. The aim of this day is to draw attention to the importance of prevention and to strengthen the population's resilience to disasters.
The campaign is being carried out in close cooperation with the retail trade in order to raise awareness of the issue throughout Switzerland. The cantons are also supporting this important initiative and helping to bring the issue of emergency stocks back to the fore.
