Federal Council adopts goals for the protection of intellectual property
The Federal Council has adopted the strategic objectives of the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) until 2026. In the future, the Institute is to continue its efforts to ensure adequate and economically sensible protection of intellectual property in Switzerland.
As the competence center of the Confederation, the Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) is responsible for all patent, design and trademark protection, indications of source and copyright. For the first time, the Federal Council has set a four-year strategic plan for the IPI.
As the Federal Council stated in a press release writesthe IPI shall continue to contribute to an adequate and economically reasonable protection of innovative creations. In doing so, it should take into account the different interests of business, society and politics in a "balanced manner".
Transparent and cost-effective procedures
In doing so, the IPI should enable "simple and transparent procedures" for users and exploit the possibilities of digitization.
The meaning and purpose of intellectual property should also be understood and respected in society and in the economy, it continues. Nevertheless, it is important to the Federal Council that the processes are managed efficiently and according to business principles. To this end, the IPI should continue to generate the necessary financial and material resources from fees for free services, without resorting to federal funds.
The IPI should also pursue a strategy based on sustainable and ethical principles in line with the United Nations' Agenda 2030.
