CH: Current status in the exhaust gas crisis

In recent days, the Federal Roads Office has conducted extensive investigations into the issue of possibly manipulated diesel vehicles. Since Friday, newly received information on the subject has been evaluated, writes the Federal Office.

According to the latest findings, the Federal Roads Office (Astra) assumes that around 130,000 vehicles could potentially be affected and are operating on Swiss roads. It concerns exclusively models from the Volkswagen group of the brands Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen of the construction years 2009 to 2014 (exclusively versions EURO5), which are equipped with diesel engines in the versions 1.2TDI, 1.6TDI and 2.0TDI, according to the Astra. The clarifications as to whether and, if so, which of these vehicle types were actually equipped with manipulated software are ongoing.

Prevent new registrations

According to the press release, Astra is preparing rulings that will prevent new, not yet registered vehicles or used vehicles from abroad from being put into circulation. With this measure, the Federal Office is preventing further potentially affected vehicles from being newly registered for Swiss road traffic and further increasing uncertainty among consumers.

Swiss second-hand cars and all vehicles already registered in Switzerland are not affected by this order. These may continue to circulate or be traded as second-hand vehicles, as Astra further emphasizes. Via the registration data of Astra and the road traffic offices, these vehicles can be located at any time for the upcoming recall and subsequently repaired.
