Covid vaccine: Swiss government signs further contract with Pfizer
The Swiss government concluded another contract with Pfizer / Biontech for three million vaccine doses, thus doubling the order quantity of the additional vaccine doses. The additional vaccines will be delivered to Switzerland starting in April.
The federal government continues to rely on mRNA vaccines. According to the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), these have so far proven to be highly effective and well tolerated. As a result, the federal government has now signed another contract with Pfizer/Biontech for an additional three million units of the vaccine. The vaccine has an efficacy of 99 percent and has already been vaccinated in Switzerland since December. So far, contracts have already been signed with five vaccine manufacturers.
In particular, these are the vaccines from Moderna (a total of around 13.5 million doses), Pfizer/BioNTech (a new total of 6 million doses), Astra Zeneca (around 5.3 million doses) and Curevac (5 million doses), as well as Novavax (6 million).
The purchase of vaccines from different manufacturers is intended to ensure that sufficient doses of an approved vaccine are available to the population even in the event of supply problems, the federal government writes. Discussions are still ongoing with various vaccine manufacturers.
According to the press release, all persons in Switzerland who want a vaccination should receive one by the summer. The prerequisite, however, is still that the deliveries of vaccines arrive and sufficient vaccination capacity can be made available.
