So that fire protection is not forgotten
Fire protection does not always receive the necessary attention at the crucial stages. A further training course for architects and engineers is intended to remedy the situation.
Just before a building is ready to be occupied, things are hectic, with tradesmen finishing up last-minute tasks. Changing electricity switches, replacing defective floor panels and installing doors that arrived late. On the large construction site, the final phase is often a hustle and bustle of construction experts who get in each other's way. After all, everything should have been finished long ago, and the opening speeches are scheduled. And then, one almost forgets, there are the fire protection officers, who have to carry out their important inspection task and complete the acceptance inspection. But if the building does not yet meet the operating conditions, an inspection or rather the acceptance is simply impossible, says the inspection office for technical fire protection of the building insurance of the canton of Zurich (see also SF 2/16).
Fire protection training
To help professionals learn to include fire protection in their planning at an early stage, or at least in good time, the Bern University of Applied Sciences, in cooperation with SIA and the Association of Cantonal Fire Insurers (VKF), is launching the "Fire protection for architects". With this, the three organizations want to train architects to become experts in the field of fire protection.
CAS graduates are then able to develop solutions to fire safety challenges in all phases of the construction process, according to the UAS.
The course, which is held in Zurich, is divided into seven modules and comprises 140 lessons. According to information, the course content is based on Quality Assurance Level 2 (QSS2) of Fire Protection Guideline 11-15, Quality Assurance in Fire Protection.
Not only for architects
In addition to architects, the target audience includes engineers, master's students (MHT,MSE), construction managers, infrastructure managers at investors, and public building owners who want to deal with fire protection planning.
The course starts at the end of January 2018 and lasts until September 2018; registration opens in July 2017.
