So that it does not burn in Advent

During Advent, candles are supposed to illuminate and bring joy. But that comes to an abrupt end when the house bursts into flames. A few safety tips.

Most fire accidents during the Christmas season are due to unattended candles. A spark quickly jumps to an easily combustible object and ignites. Advent wreaths and Christmas trees can catch fire within seconds and cause devastating fires. Candles should therefore always be extinguished as soon as you leave the room.

Here are a few safety tips from the Fire Prevention Advisory Service (BfB) and the Advice center for accident prevention (bfu) at a glance:

  • Attach the Christmas tree in a stand designed for this purpose.
  • Never leave candles burning unattended. Extinguish all candles before leaving the room.
  • Make sure candles are secure and upright.
  • Avoid drafts.
  • Attach candles to the Advent wreath and Christmas tree so that they do not come into contact with flammable materials or objects.
  • Place candles at an appropriate distance from flammable objects (curtains, decorative materials, tablecloths, etc.).
  • Never let children play alone near burning candles.
  • Keep matches and lighters safe from children's hands.
  • Always have a bucket of water or a fire blanket on hand for emergencies.

If you want to play it safe, use electric candles or fairy lights.
