Survive the heat wave

The current heat wave has Switzerland firmly in its grip. Temperatures of up to 35°C can pose a health risk. Find out what you can do about it here.

Heatwave
The only thing that helps is cooling down: the heat wave is not harmless.

Heat illnesses are by no means harmless; especially for the elderly and sick, pregnant women and young children. People who work outdoors are also exposed to health risks at high temperatures. In the current heat wave, it is therefore important to look out for symptoms of overheating in people at risk.

Possible symptoms of heat stress may include elevated body temperature, increased pulse, weakness, headache, muscle cramps, dry mouth and sleep disturbances. In severe cases, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea may also occur, including confusion, dizziness and impaired consciousness.

In these cases, immediate action must be taken: Lay the affected person down and cool the body. If conscious, give fresh water to drink. If these measures do not bring improvement, medical help must be requested.

  • Drink plenty of water (at least 1.5 liters per day)
