The European data center market is expected to grow by more than 6% annually by 2020, reaching a volume of €270.4 billion. This has a Survey by management consultants A.T. Kearney. Over 50 IT leaders in Europe confirmed that companies are planning to increase their budgets for this area by 50% and more.
This is why there is an acute need for action in order not to jeopardize the competitiveness of locations in Europe in the age of digitization: According to A.T. Kearney, the rising demand for data center capacity over the next five years will create more than 340,000 net new jobs across Europe. A further 172,000 vacancies would be added during this period as a result of retirements. These figures already include rationalization and globalization effects.
According to the survey, Big Data, cloud computing, the digitization of processes, products and services, the Internet of Things and the adaptation of older systems will result in further investments in data centers. 65% of IT decision-makers would choose Europe as their location.
As things stand today, demand for skilled personnel to build and operate digital infrastructures significantly exceeds supply. Only about 50% of the positions can be filled with the available specialists, it says.
