Digital patient file for tablet and smartphone

Swisscom is working with the German company Xonion to develop a digital patient record for mobile devices for use in hospitals. Digital patient files would ensure both better data quality and efficiency in the hospital as well as more satisfied patients and employees.

The two companies are developing a digital patient record for tablet and smartphone - the Medical Record App. The solution is a system-independent app that simplifies documentation for doctors and nursing staff thanks to its input capability and intuitive forms.

With Swisscom Medical Record, all hospital staff involved in the treatment process have fast access to patient files from any location. The solution can be connected to all existing hospital information systems. With a single click, doctors can view and record all patient data, from the patient's medical history to current laboratory values and medication, directly at the patient's bedside. The app can also be used offline, which is particularly interesting for affiliated physicians.

A second advantage of the solution is a form designer that allows the app to be adapted quickly and easily to the user's own needs and to integrate department-specific documentation. In addition, speech recognition facilitates text input. The app currently runs on the iOS operating system and thus works on iPods, iPhones, iPads and the Apple Watch. Other operating systems will follow, Swisscom said.

 Medical data quality improved

The basic solution is already in place and is now being finalized in co-creation with specialists from various hospitals. The solution will improve the quality of medical documentation and thus also the outcome of treatment. Thanks to the ability to view up-to-date data at any time, not only patient satisfaction but also the satisfaction of hospital staff is increased.

Swisscom Medical Records will be available on the market from 2016. According to the announcement, hospitals will pay per user account and month. The aim is also to seamlessly combine the app with the evita patient dossier and Swisscom's data exchange platform.
