Document verification device: pilot test successfully completed
The city of Bern had an automated document verification device in operation as a pilot last year - and draws a positive balance.

The Residents' Services, Migration and Aliens' Police (EMF) of the city of Bern successfully completed a pilot test with an automatic document verification device, a so-called eDoc reader, in 2015. The device reads and checks the facial image and personal details from biometric passports or alien identity cards. The conclusion of the EMF on the pilot operation was entirely positive, writes the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP). The automatic verification of identity documents is fast and leads quickly to a result. Thanks to the pilot test, the EMF has been able to identify several fake IDs. The EMF has now converted the pilot operation into regular continuous operation. This was announced by the FDJP in connection with a report concerning the annual report on the Integrated border management (IBM) 2015 reported.
