Domain ".ch": Switch with best cybercrime defense
The Switch Foundation will again act as the registry operator of the ".ch" domain for the next five years. It had won the public invitation to tender issued by the Federal Office of Communications, according to Bakom. The decision was published today on simap.ch.
With the award, the Switch Foundation will manage the national database of .ch domain names from 2017 to 2021 and ensure electronic linkage with the worldwide domain name system (DNS), Bakom said. Its tasks also include the allocation and revocation of the right to use Internet addresses ending in ".ch".
Good concept against cybercrime
Switch, which has been operating the ".ch" Internet domain since 2003, was awarded the mandate because its bid achieved the highest overall score among the bids submitted. Both qualitative criteria and the wholesale price offered were evaluated. Switch's offer stood out in particular in the important area of combating cybercrime.
Since the Ordinance on Internet Domains (OID) came into force in 2015, end customers no longer have to contact the registry operator designated by Bakom when registering .ch domain names. The award decision therefore has no direct impact on domain name holders.
