Drug trafficking ring busted
In an elaborate investigation, the Zurich-Limmat Public Prosecutor's Office, together with the Zurich City Police, succeeded in rooting out a drug trafficking ring and seizing a large quantity of narcotics, as announced by the Office of the Attorney General, the Zurich-Limmat Public Prosecutor's Office and the Zurich City Police.
The Zurich-Limmat public prosecutor's office conducted extensive investigations against a drug trafficking ring in close cooperation with the Zurich city police for about one and a half years. According to the statement, the total of seven defendants are accused of importing at least 63 kg of amphetamine and 63,000 ecstasy tablets from Holland into Switzerland between July 2013 and November 2014, through variously large contributions to the crime. The proceeds from this amounted to between 278,000 and 393,000 francs.
As a result of the intensive investigations by the Zurich city police and the public prosecutor's office, it was possible to seize around 20 kg of amphetamine and around 4,800 ecstasy tablets. This is one of the largest seizures of such drugs in the canton of Zurich.
A few days ago, the public prosecutor's office brought charges against the three main offenders for a qualified offense against the Narcotics Act at the Zurich District Court. According to information, prison sentences of 51 months, 5 and 8 years are requested. Charges were filed earlier against two others involved and prison sentences of 20 months unconditional and 18 months conditional were requested. In addition, the Zurich District Court already handed down initial sentences in June 2015, punishing two defendants who had also already been indicted with prison sentences of 20 months conditional and 24 months unconditional each, as well as revoking an earlier sentence of 18 months, it is reported.
