A look back and into the future

From 1894 to far into the future: From November 14 to 17, 2017, the security trade fair in Zurich-Oerlikon tells many stories. For example in the "History Tunnel", which shows once groundbreaking innovations. New developments, as they exist today and are presented in the "IPS - Innovation Park".

During the Security trade fair 2017 the "History Tunnel" and the "IPS - Innovation Park Safety" will offer new trade fair experiences. Both platforms are implemented in Hall 4.

"History tunnel" shows development

Once upon a time, there were groundbreaking innovations, by people and companies who looked boldly into the future. Today, people look back on these developments and inventions, sometimes with admiration, sometimes with a smile. The "History Tunnel" will use a wide variety of examples to show visitors the developments and processes from the original dangers and risks to the most up-to-date solutions. Around 15 exhibitors will be taking part. The oldest example dates back to 1894, when the first "automated fire detectors" were developed. This was nothing more than a birdcage in which two birds were kept. The smoke produced by a fire caused the birds to lose consciousness or die. They fell from their perch to the cage floor. The weight of the bird closed an electrical circuit and triggered the fire alarm. To avoid false alarms, for example in case of natural death of an animal, the alarm was only triggered if both birds fell on the floor panel.

But the "History Tunnel" also tells other stories. For example, that of the Vidmar cash cabinet from Züblin Firesafe (1900), the padlock No. 375Z from Abus Switzerland (1924), a fire control panel from Siemens (1945), a video surveillance monitor from Eotec (1965), a multi-lock from Eichholzer (1975), the first defibrillator from Procamed (1988) and many stories more.

The Innovation Park

All these developments were once innovations that changed the market and the industry. The security industry is also constantly coming up with innovations. Only the future will show which of these developments will actually have a major impact on the market and on this specialist field. The new "IPS - Security Innovation Park" allows a look ahead. Among other things, there will be an alarm system for lone workers based on Google Mobile Services (Ascom), innovative image analysis sequences (Eotec), video-based fire detection (Bosch), a cloud-based alerting and communication solution (Instasolution) or a soft ice robot (Marvelboy). A total of around 15 companies will also be exhibiting in the Innovation Park, which will captivate visitors.

Many success stories

History is also being made by the trade fair itself: the very fact that the event will be held for the 21st time this year and will once again offer a comprehensive insight into all security topics is a story: a success story! Just like the security congress accompanying the trade fair, which will be integrated directly into the trade fair for the first time and will take place in Halls 3 and 5. For the 13 Congress modules as usual, attention is paid to the highest quality and to practical and solution-oriented presentations, and the topics cover a broad spectrum.

Success stories are also being written by the winners of two prizes that will be awarded at the trade event: The VBSF (Swiss Association of Fire Protection and Safety Professionals) will award the "VBSF Safety Award 2017" on November 14 at 4:45 p.m. in Forum red (Hall 5), and the ASIS Swiss Chapter will present the "ASIS Young Professionals Annual Award in Switzerland" on November 16 at 4:45 p.m. in Forum blue (Hall 3). Both Awards are public and open to all visitors and last about 15 minutes each.
